Blue Agate Prayer Beads
Blue Agate Prayer Beads — Natural Blue Aqeeq Tasbih from Iran
Blue Agate (عقیق آبی), known in Arabic as Aqeeq Azraq (عقیق أزرق) and in Persian as Aqiq Abi, is one of the lesser-discussed but deeply valued varieties of Agate in Islamic tradition. While Red Yemeni Agate carries the most widely cited hadith recommendations, Blue Agate has its own place in Islamic gem tradition — valued for its cool, calming tone and its natural depth of colour that ranges from pale powder blue to deep navy, often with white or grey banding. In the hand during dhikr, blue agate has a distinctive cool smoothness and modest weight that makes it well-suited for extended prayer sessions.
At Ersaly, all blue agate prayer beads are verified natural stone — no dyed or synthetic substitutes. Each piece is strung with a replaceable karakoosh (tassel) and authenticated before shipping.
Blue Agate Varieties in Our Collection
Our 10 designs cover three distinct types of blue agate, each with a different visual character:
- Blue Aqeeq (Akiki) Prayer Beads — the classic rounded polished blue agate, available in both 33-bead and 101-bead formats. Our 33-Bead Certified Blue Agate Tasbih at €68 and Natural Blue Agate 33-Bead Polished Finish at €68 offer a solid, consistent blue tone in standard round beads. The 101-bead format — Natural Blue Agate 101-Bead at €73 and the 101-Bead Blue Aqeeq Tasbih Misbaha Certified at €73 — offers the full dhikr count in a single continuous strand.
- Blue Shajar Agate Tasbih — Shajar (شجر) means “tree” in Arabic, and Shajar Agate is distinguished by its internal dendritic inclusions — natural mineral formations that create branch-like or moss-like patterns inside the stone. Our Blue Shajar Agate 33-Bead Tasbih at €66 features multicolour veining with the characteristic blue base and visible natural inclusions — no two beads are identical.
- Dragon Cut Blue Aqeeq Rosary — a less common cutting style where the beads are faceted in a angular pattern rather than smooth round, creating a surface that catches light differently during movement. The Handmade Blue Aqeeq Dragon Cut Rosary at €59 comes in a 33-bead format with a replaceable tassel — the most affordable entry point in our blue agate collection.
Blue Agate in Islamic Tradition
Agate (Aqeeq) as a category is one of the most consistently recommended gemstones across Islamic hadith literature — recommended for use in rings and prayer beads, and associated with protection, blessings, and spiritual clarity. Blue Agate specifically is associated in Islamic gem tradition with tranquility and the subduing of anxiety during worship.
It is particularly popular among Muslim communities in South Asia, the Gulf, and North Africa, where it is worn both as a tasbih and as a ring stone. The Akiki variety (a lighter, more crystalline blue) is especially sought after in the Gulf and Pakistani markets.
